Job Description

Job Purpose

The purpose of the role of the Estimator is to prepare and deliver estimates ranging from AED 1-10M for costs of a planned interior fit-out project in terms of materials and labor, and equipment, usually in the pre-construction and tendering phases. They can interpret plans and develop a budget for interior fit-out projects. They have knowledge in regulations and relevant codes of practice.


Operational Responsibility

  1.  Carry out accurate quantity measurement.
  2.  Evaluate tender documents and arrange RFIs and workshop with Lead Estimator to ensure accuracy and quality.
  3.  Prepare enquiry documentation and issue to subcontractors / suppliers in a timely manner.
  4.  Obtain quotes from suppliers and subcontractors for pricing tenders within a specified time frame.
  5.  Organize supplier and subcontractors quotations, and negotiate where required to ensure quotes meet tender compliance.
  6.  Produce and maintain unit pricing database based on current market conditions, for use when there is an aggressive tender timeline.
  7.  Build and maintain healthy relationships with key vendors, subcontractors and suppliers, to maintain competitiveness.
  8.  Create an accurate estimate report or bid ready for review by the Lead Estimator, in line with quality standards.
  9.  Create and maintain open lines of communication between internal departments, to ensure a seamless bid process.

Additional:

  1. Undertake any other activity that may be assigned by the line manager from time to time to meet business needs.
  2.  Provide support to Managing Estimator / Lead Estimator when required to meet business needs, including customer support.
     

Person Specifications

Person Specifications (Essential)

  1.  Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or related field.
  2.  5 years’ experience in a similar role
  3. Demonstrated influence and negotiation skills.
  4. Strong communication skills both written and oral.
  5.  Demonstrated analytical ability and numeral skills.
  6.  Demonstrated attention to details and quality.
  7.  Demonstrated interpersonal ability.
  8.  Strong planning and organization skills.
  9.  Demonstrated ability to read engineering drawings.
  10.  Working knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel and Power-point.
  11.  Working knowledge of CAD, Microsoft Project, Primavera and Aconex.

Note:

In the absence of formal qualifications, a trade/construction background will be considered with a minimum of 6-8 years’ experience depending on the level of the role and quality of experience.

Person Specification (Desirable)

  1.  Working knowledge of estimation software, such as Causeway and CostX.
  2.  Working knowledge of ERP systems.
