Job Description

Job Purpose

The purpose of the role of the Accountant is to deliver accurate and timely financial transactions and record-keeping in line with accounting standards, company policies and regulatory requirements. The role also supports the Chief Accountant through financial reporting, audit preparation and maintaining the integrity of financial data.

 

Operational Responsibilities

1. Record financial transactions (invoices, bills, and entries) accurately in the SAP accounting system, ensuring reliable and up-to-date financial data.
2. Maintain and organize financial records and supporting documentation in compliance with statutory, regulatory, and audit requirements.
3. Prepare and issue client invoices and account statements, supporting timely billing cycles and effective collection of receivables.
4. Perform weekly reconciliations of accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accuracy of balances and proactively identifying and resolving discrepancies.
5. Maintain and review Work in Progress (WIP) schedules and ensure proper revenue recognition as per contract terms.
6. Reconcile project accounts and close projects upon completion.
7. Administer vendor and subcontractor payments in accordance with contractual terms, and report any delays or variances.
8. Liaise with banking institutions regarding payments, guarantees, bonds, and letters of credit to support smooth project execution.
9. Prepare tax reconciliations and reports, meeting local regulatory and statutory obligations.
10. Support the preparation of monthly financial statements, contributing to accurate reporting and informed decision-making.
11. Prepare and maintain weekly updates of monthly and annual revenue forecasts in line with the latest project programme.
12. Coordinate with Project Managers and Quantity Surveyors to track project progress and forecast invoicing milestones.
13. Compile and provide required documentation to support applications for Advance Payment Guarantees (APG) and Performance Bonds (PB) in accordance with contract terms.
14. Certify all supplier and subcontractor invoicing, in order to ensure payment completion
15. Upload invoices to client ERP portal upon goods received note (GRN) issuance and monitor purchase orders (POs) and payment status to support timely collections.

Person Specifications

Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required: Essential (must have to perform the role)

1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, providing a strong foundation in financial principles and practices.
2. Professional certification (ACCA, CPA, CMA, or equivalent) is preferred.
3. Minimum of 4 years’ relevant accounting experience.
4. Working knowledge of local taxation and regulatory requirements in UAE.
5. Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
6. Demonstrated proficiency in SAP by finance or other finance and accounting systems.
7. Demonstrated planning and organisational skills.
8. Demonstrated strong attention to detail and quality.
9. Demonstrated analytical thinking.
10. Demonstrated effective communication skills both written and oral.
11. Demonstrated teamwork skills.
12. Demonstrated cross-functional collaboration skills.

 

Desirable (advantageous)

1. Local knowledge of Accounting Practice in the jurisdiction they operate in.
2. Working knowledge of local taxation and regulatory requirements in GCC.
